New Passages

my warmth of living

from within—

grew like the sun—

a supernova spreading through my soul

shocking my heart

scorching my mind

'till I became lost—

the storm of my tears

flooding my path—

my brightness of being

from without—

radiated with each sunrise

flashed with each full moon

'till I became blinded—

Darkness creeping

Consuming my life . . .

As my spirit slept

in the smoky contours

of my mind

I became ignorant

of wrong and right

I became ill

from my inner fights.

Now—I must listen with care—

ground my feet to the earth—

breathe in the fresh air—

cleansing, freshening baths of water

dancing alive with candle-light fire . . .

Into the day I must step with a smile

Remembering why I walk the miles.
