My mom was recently in Telluride, Colorado (TSA deployed), for a three-month stay. She was able to attend a book signing and returned home with a gift for me: a novel, titled Go As A River, and signed by Shelley Read. Two other small gifts were happily received by me as well: a Mountain Lodge ballpoint pen, and a bookmark from Between the Covers Bookstore featuring Telluride & Bruno Coffee. After reading the first couple chapters, I used my new pen to write the word “riveting” on my bookmark.
Other words followed: primal, brave, truth-filled, deep yet simple. Halfway through: Incredible, beautiful. Nearing the end: Soulful, flow, spiritual.
Reading this book at times brought shivers up my legs, like a song can sometimes do. In two other instances my eyes teared up. I did not want to put this book down, but I had to help my mom prepare for a party she threw yesterday. At 3 a.m. this morning I dove in again and completed the read three hours later.
With aesthetic symbolism throughout, and alive descriptions, this novel is a great read for anyone who loves nature, mothers, and those who enjoy reading life stories. It takes place in a small town in Colorado and begins in 1948.
I won’t say anything else, because I don’t want to ruin it for the readers. Five out of five stars is my review.
Thank you, Shelly.
Love,
Tracy
