Serenity Prayer

Indecision is a killer, isn’t it? It causes so much anxiety and confusion. It causes stress that may be harmful to your mental and physical health. So, I’m writing this blog to help bring some clarity to the surface.

To answer one big question, you might need to answer a few other questions. So, start with a list and title it with the big question. For instance, “Should I Move to the Country?” Then, below that, answer some other questions.

Considering your timeline can help your decision.

What option is most appealing today?

What option is most appealing this year?

What option is most appealing decades from now?

Considering the people in your life can help your decision.

Which is better for you?

Which is better for your family?

Which is better for society?

Considering your mental health can help your decision.

Which choice is preferable emotionally? For instance, what seems more stressful?

Which choice is preferable morally? For instance, what seems to be the right thing to do? Ask yourself what you value, then try to maximize that value.

What is best for you psychologically? For instance, will this make you feel younger, or will this make you feel stronger?

What is best existentially? For instance, what kind of person are you or do you want to become?

Considering your circumstances can help your decision.

Which choice is preferable financially? For instance, are you willing to put all your money into a beautiful house or are you better off balancing your income by embracing the little joys of life?

Which choice is best for your physical health? For instance, will you need assistance? a clean environment? or access to healthy food?

To be genuine you might need to leave your old self behind in order to create and discover your personal development. But, keep in mind, if you make your choice and two years later you change your mind—that’s completely okay!

Change is a choice. Ambitious people find it easier and quicker to make a change than aspiring people who learn to grow comfortable with self-satisfaction. If you think you are more of an aspiring person than an ambitious person, then dealing with interruptions to your choice, such as sadness, may make things more difficult. Learning to live with acceptance, enjoying the moment, appreciating the mysteries of life, and having faith in God helps.

Seek God first.

No matter how much you’re interested in something, other people may not be interested in it. It’s up to you to recognize your beliefs.

Lastly, try to stay positive while remaining sensible.

If you’re still unable to make your decision, fear might be your biggest obstacle. My advice, then, is to do it scared.

Fear is natural. It even protects us. If a bear is chasing us, we should run. Fear of harm is healthy. Not only physical harm, but also emotional, and even spiritual harm. If someone emotionally abuses you, you should run. If you’re doing things you know are wrong, you should stop.

If you hear God speaking to you over and over again but you’re not listening because you’re afraid—then DO IT SCARED.

For instance, if you’re hiding from your true self, you should confront this.

If the past is affecting your present in negative ways, you should confront this.

These confrontations will help you grow and open up your eyes to His will in your life. God doesn’t want us living miserably. He loves us and wants only the best for each of us.

Fear of failure is a big one. If God tells you to quit your job and start a singing career, maybe you should listen to Him. But, 1-Make sure this message is clear—you’ve received it multiple times and discussed it with trustworthy companions; and 2-Don’t do it at the expense of others—instead, rely on Him to provide for you.

Here’s another example: If you’re thinking about moving away, but are afraid your family might need you—what do you do? Talk to God. Talk to your family. Is it unbelievable that communication can actually help?

There are many ways God talks to you. Studying the Scripture is one way to hear him. Intuition is another. Signs, too, guide you. Even dreams can guide you. There are no coincidences, and God is with you 100% of the time. Follow the beauty, the love you feel toward Him and He feels towards you. It might not be loud and clear, and it might take patience—that’s why we call it “the still, small voice.”

DO IT SCARED. But keep in mind, if you’ve been doing it for a decade and have no result it might be time to do something else.

If you’re still unable to make your decision you might need to take some time for self-care by doing something smaller. The act of doing can become a stepping stone, a baby step, to making bigger decisions.

Self-care can take time. Have patience with yourself. It is always important to take time to rest. But, too much inactivity isn’t good for us.
