There Is An Art to Everything

Last night I watched the movie, Pig with Nicolas Cage. It is a beautiful, artsy movie full of symbolism, and it touched me, reminding me that art can be magical and divine. I don’t want to say too much about this film because it should be enjoyed, not spoiled. But, it touches on life and death, society and truth, money and love, asking you “What’s important?”

It keeps you interested by piquing your curiosity, by making you think. It’s funny how some of the most quiet movies stick with you. The main character flows in the present moment, as does the viewer. He is interesting, and you find yourself asking questions about his character—questions that make you reflect on the entire film. Questions that make you reflect on life.

It reminds me of the quote “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Henry David Thoreau.

I described this film as “artsy.” I am not saying this to be disparaging! Take pride in being “artsy.” And, as I’ve said before, there is an art to everything. I chose this word because this movie is more than just a mass-market entertainment film. (This is one of the numerous symbolic elements). But there is another “artsy” aspect to the film: culinary art. Art doesn’t simply imitate life, it gives birth, it awakens, reminds, and so much more.

When the muse comes to visit, welcome her with open arms.

Love,

Tracy
